COVID-19 Response and Preparedness

Since 2020, COVID-19 has affected us all, particularly the elderly. About 74.4% of the one million lives lost in the US were of the elderly. As new COVID-19 variants/spikes appear, we continue to be vigilant. Since COVID-19 first spread, we have followed and will continue to follow the CDC, local public health departments and State Licensing guidelines. Sometimes we encounter too much information and it is easy to get confused. When this happens, we tend to err on the safer side.

Due to our team’s vigilance and support from families we have thus far managed to avoid a breakout at Joy Senior Center. In terms of preparedness:

  • All staff are fully vaccinated.
  • All residents are fully vaccinated and boosted, vaccinations are hosted at home.
  • Per licensing’s protocol, we maintain at least a month’s inventory of COVID-19 protection gear, so we are not impacted by the supply chain issues, in case the facility is infected.
  • COVID-19 updates and key protocols are discussed every month in staff meetings to keep staff up-to-date.

Safety with Visitations

  • We work with State Licensing and the Public Health Department to keep our home safe. Regulations for visitations have changed since COVID-19 first surfaced. We communicate any new changes to families via text and email.
  • As of March 2022, we check temperatures and maintain a checklist log for visitors. All visitors must show us their vaccination cards before entering the facility. If they are not vaccinated or do not have their vaccination card, they must wear an N95 Mask provided by us before entering the facility. If they are fully vaccinated, they must still have their masks on at all times when inside.
  • Families can schedule a FaceTime call with their loved ones to minimize travel and risk of contagion.
